retire

Prepare for better days

If you have not already, you should begin thinking about how you are going to save for your retirement. This is true regardless of your age. You need to make sure that you are working on this particular aspect of your financial life because you are going to require a lot of money in retirement. Most people do not really understand just how much they are going to need in order to be able to survive without an income. However, if you have at least some idea of this, then you are certainly going to want to start investing right away.

Most of us really do not have the time to learn every little thing about the market. It is better if we can just put our money to work into a diversified holding of some kind. This means that some people will be highly interested in buying up industry super funds. These are diversified funds that are designed to allow the investor to be able to get a nice piece of plenty of different stocks within a particular industry. The industry could be any one that you happen to choose, it is all up to you.

Just having some money in the market is such a big step. There are far too many who do not even have one penny going towards their financial future. This is perhaps one of the big reasons why we see so many people who are just not prepared for their retirement. If you don’t want to be just another number like this, make sure that you get to work today. Even putting aside a few hundred dollars each month would be enough for you to get started in this process. Start right now.

London Property Markets – After the Riots

The London riots earlier this year were some of the worst riots the UK has ever seen, starting in London and spreading to other major cities including Manchester and Birmingham. The riots were made worse by the fact that there was seemingly no reason to justify the violence including arson of unprecedented levels. In fact, there was an argument that the rioters in the other cities were rioting simply as an excuse for looting — shocking scenes indeed.
This caused panic among landlords in the affected areas, near the affected areas in all the affected cities, and in cities yet to be affected as they nervously watched the news to see where; if anywhere the rioting would spread to next. But are landlords still feeling this panic three months on?
The riots were shocking for everyone the length and breadth of the UK watching them on TV, even more shocking for those on the outskirts of affected areas, and of course, most shocking of all for anyone unlucky enough to have been caught up in them in anyway.
Landlords were affected more than most however. These riots were among the worst in UK history, mainly because of the unprecedented levels of looting and arson. During the riots hundreds of shops were broken into, looted and vandalised, buildings were set on fire, and billions of pounds worth of damage was done across the capital and the other cities rioting spread to. Many of those buildings being broken into, looted or burned down had a landlord or landlords.
The riots were a media circus, and this put pressure on insurance companies to pay out, so most people will have been fully compensated for any losses. But again, these were riots that came out of nothing; a minor protest over a police shooting in one borough (Tottenham) led to almost the entire capital erupting into violence lasting several nights. You cannot compensate for the emotional impact of something like this.
That said, landlords are in the business of making money, and the London property rental market is booming. We also have the London 2012 Olympics coming up. Landlords main concern is whether tenants are still panicked by the riots, and that answer is no. According to many agents most tenants who had viewings cancelled because of the riots went ahead and let the properties in affected areas.

Investment in finance

In finance, investment is the commitment of funds by buying securities or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the money markets or capital markets, or in fairly liquid real assets, such as gold or collectibles. Valuation is the method for assessing whether a potential investment is worth its price. Returns on investments will follow the risk-return spectrum.
Types of financial investments include shares, other equity investment, and bonds (including bonds denominated in foreign currencies). These financial assets are then expected to provide income or positive future cash flows, and may increase or decrease in value giving the investor capital gains or losses.
